Frequently Asked Questions
Below are the answers to some frequently asked questions regarding NSTAR's trimming of trees near our electric distribution lines.
I noticed a tree branch on or near wires. Who should I
report this to?
If you believe a tree is in need of trimming you can fill
out the
Tree Trimming Request Form and an NSTAR
representative will contact you after the site visit with
further information.
The initial site visit may take up to 4 weeks, with emergency work being prioritized first. Also, depending on the location of the wire and trees, you may need to contact an independent tree crew.
A tree I would like to remove is near power lines. What
steps do I need to take to allow a contractor to remove the
tree?
An NSTAR employee can cut power to and relocate the line to
allow the tree to be safely removed. To schedule this work,
please call 800-592-2000. There is a fee associated with having
an NSTAR perform this service.
NSTAR was trimming trees in my neighborhood and left
debris. Will it be cleaned up?
NSTAR will clean up left over debris after planned and scheduled tree maintenance. It may take crews a few trips
over a few days to collect debris. However, NSTAR does not remove debris as a result of emergency work, for instance after storms. Some of this debris may be the responsibility of the town or customer.
What do the blue "X" marks found on trees in my
neighborhood mean?
Trees with a blue "X" are being considered for removal by
NSTAR during scheduled tree maintenance.
