ENERGY STAR Refrigerator and Freezer Program
NSTAR offers a $50 mail-in rebate toward the purchase of ENERGY STAR-qualified refrigerators and freezers bought between January 1, 2010 and December 31, 2010. Please note, this rebate may not be combined with any other utility or energy efficiency service provider offer.

Refrigerator & Freezer Recycling
Did you know your old, second refrigerator or freezer costs up to $150 a year to run? If you are looking to get rid of your second refrigerator or freezer, let NSTAR pick it up and we'll give you $50. The refrigerator or freezer will be recycled into new products, keeping materials out of landfills while also saving you energy and money.

To qualify you must be an NSTAR Electric customer and own the units for pick-up. In addition, your refrigerator or freezer must be:

  • Between 10 and 30 cubic feet using inside measurements.
  • Must be the second refrigerator and/or freezer - not your primary refrigerator or freezer.
  • Clean, empty and in working order at the time of pick-up.
  • Accessible with a clear path for removal by contractor.

Each participating household is limited to pick-up and rebates for two units. The refrigerator or freezer must be picked up at your NSTAR Electric service address. Enroll online or call 877-545-4113 to schedule a pickup.

SmartStrip Program
Did you know many electrical devices continue to use electricity even when they are off? Cutting power at the socket can help to insure this does not happen, saving electricity. NSTAR customers who order a SmartStrip by December 31, 2010 are eligible for an instant $10 rebate and free shipping (limit of two SmartStrips per customer).

SmartStrips sense when the power is off on one device (such as a home computer) and automatically cuts power to other devices (such as printers, monitors and other peripherals). SmartStrips are also great for use with other electronics such as televisions, DVD players, gaming consoles and other associated peripherals.

Visit the Energy Federation Incorporated web site to order SmartStrips or for more information.

Cool Smart ENERGY STAR Central Air Conditioning Program
Did you know ENERGY STAR-labeled central air conditioning units, properly installed, can save you up to 20 percent on your cooling costs? To help with the purchase of a new ENERGY STAR central air conditioner, NSTAR is offering a mail-in rebate of up to $500 for the purchase and installation of high efficiency central air conditioning units and air source heat pumps that meet or exceed the ENERGY STAR minimum standard Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating (SEER) of 14.5, Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) of 12, and a Heating Seasonal Performance Factor (HSPF) of 8.2 (for heat pumps only).

We encourage you to work with one of our trained, participating contractors to ensure your new unit is properly installed. For more information on the program offerings and a list of participating contractors, call 800-473-1105 or visit Mass Save.

Installing an energy efficient two-speed or variable-speed pool pump can save up to 70 percent on your energy costs while keeping your pool water cleaner, clearer and healthier. For a list of qualifying pool pump models, visit www.myenergystar.com/poolpumps. The rebate application and all necessary materials must be postmarked by October 31, 2010.

If so, you may be eligible to participate in the Multi-Family Assessment Program. This program provides services to the entire complex through coordination with the owner, facility manager, or condominium association.
